About the Hillam Blog and Newsletter!

We began publishing blog posts and Hillam Happenings Newsletters here regularly in December 2022 and continued through April 2023. Then we put everything on hold.

In July, I (Sharon) started publishing articles on Medium.com, and for the first time in 5-years of online writing, I began to see amazing growth.

I published the following blog post here on Substack in August explaining what was happening on Medium:

How we are now using Substack

It’s now March of 2024, and as I explained in our newsletter on 3/7/2024, I’m now only using Substack to:

  1. Share Friend Links to new articles on Medium

  2. Update you regarding The Hillam Blog & Newsletter

  3. Share personal and family news.

What are Friend Links?

The following is from Medium’s website:

We understand there are moments where you want to make sure friends, family, and fans can read your work no matter what, so we created a handy Friend Link that gives anyone free access to your story — even if they’re not a subscribing Medium member.

But it gets even better.

In early December 2023, I published I Became a Friend of Medium Today and Here's Why on Medium, and in that article I explained that I now have access to Friend Links for EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE on Medium!

Navigating Substack

Go to the website anytime to read our blog posts archives and newsletters you may have missed and manage your subscription. Also, we recommend the Substack reading app for your phone or tablet. It’s the BEST way to engage with us.

More About Us

We met in 2006. Sharon was in Virginia writing blog posts on BigChurch.com, and David was in England reading them. It's quite a story of how God brought us together, and one we will share at some point here. In the meantime, if you're too curious to wait, then you can watch our YouTube video, Our Amazing Story.1

A lot has happened since 2006. Here’s an ever-so-brief rundown:

  • We married in November 2006.

  • We moved to Texas in early 2008 to help Sharon’s parents with their very old apartments. Six months later, we bought them out and managed the business for eight very long years. God had mercy and brought us a buyer in 2016.

  • We now live in Rhome, a small community just north of Fort Worth.

  • We both retired in 2021.

Our ONE Thing!

Our meeting each other online was a God set up. How He brought us together and has continued working in our lives right up to the present moment is nothing short of an ongoing amazing story and one we just can’t keep to ourselves.

What is our ONE thing? It’s knowing and walking daily with our Father God through our Lord Jesus Christ, empowered by and filled with His Holy Spirit. This isn’t just a statement of our faith, it’s our reality. It isn’t just what we believe, it’s an ongoing experience. Our faith affects our lives in tangible, sometimes miraculous ways.

And everything we write and share here flows out of that reality.

Jesus said it this way:

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 The Message Bible

We’ve taken Him up on His offer — and we pray you do, too!

The video is almost an hour. For a slightly shorter version, move the slider to the 9:45 point to skip past the introductions. And if you run out of time (or patience!), be sure and check out the slide show of pics from our first year together in Virginia starting at the 52:50 point. I wrote and produced the background song, Oh Lord, You’re Faithful, and David put it all together. What a team!
